“Mark Mason” joins the fleet.
Less than a year ago in January, four volunteers from the charity, Shropshire and Staffordshire Blood Bikes, were invited to a very special dinner, following the investiture of Worshipful Brother Mike Heenan as Provincial Grand Master of the Mark Master Masons of Staffordshire and Shropshire. Mike announced that for two years his chosen charity would be Shropshire and Staffordshire Blood Bikes (SSBB) and even more exciting that it was his firm intention to fund two new blood bikes for the charity.
True to his word and just 9 months later, a new bike was unveiled at the annual meeting of the Mark Master Masons, in the presence of Staffordshire and Shropshire brethren as well as visitors from other provinces. The bike, a BMW F800 fully liveried and equipped with blood trays and sat nav. It is customary to name the blood bikes and this one proudly bears the name ‘Mark Mason’.
Mike Heenan addressed the meeting “It has been a marvellous experience teaming up with Shropshire & Staffordshire Blood Bikes. They provide such an excellent and much needed
service free of charge to the NHS, 24/7. All members are also voluntary which underlines their commitment. We look forward to seeing ‘Mark Mason’ out and about in our two counties. For us, it has been a great ride so far, and fundraising for the second bike is underway”
Chair of SSBB, Jeremy Cartwright expressed his thanks “We are delighted and very grateful for the continued support of the Mark Master Masons. Our new bike “Mark Mason” will be a great asset to our fleet and will shortly commence service making urgent deliveries to and between hospitals across Staffordshire and Shropshire.
SSBB is one of over 30 blood bike groups in the UK, they deliver urgent medical samples, free of charge, for the NHS. 100% volunteers, the riders, controllers and fundraisers work together to save thousands of pounds for the NHS. The samples could be blood, platelets, fecal samples, spinal fluid, bone marrow and frozen donated breast milk for poorly babies in our local neo-natal units.
