South Shropshire Summer BBQ

The Sun didn’t shine on the 9th July as it usually does on the annual summer BBQ at Culmington, in the scenic Corvedale, just north of Ludlow, but at least the rain held off and a record turnout of over 150 Brethren families and friends, supported by RWBro Peter Taylor, Provincial Grand Master for Shropshire and his wife Pat enjoyed a very happy day. It was splendid to see the fellowship of Freemasonry in action with Brethren from Herefordshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire all enjoying the ambience of the day.

The two major donations of £1000.00 to each, went to W.Bro. Brian Hardy (last year’s WM of the Lodge of the Marches) for his chosen Charity, South Shropshire branch of Mind and to VW.Bro Ian Smith DPrGM of the Mark Province for the recently launched “Shropshire and Staffordshire Blood Bikes” appeal and that donation took the funds raised in only six months since the appeal was launched to over £12,000.00.

The local Fund Raising Committee is probably unique in that it is drawn from, and organised for all the Orders of Freemasonry in the area, wives of the Brethren are also actively involved and give their much respected input into the decisions taken re distribution of the monies raised. A further £1,700 was raised on the day and will boost any appeals and good causes that will surely arise over the coming months.
